Here are the exhibitions we’ve hosted at the College Park Gallery.

Work In Progress

Oct 23 - Dec 18

We’re leaning into the fact that our studio is currently under construction due to the unfortunate accident that smashed a window. So we invited 15 Central Florida artists to submit works that are currently unfinished, abandoned, or for any reason incomplete. There are two prices on each piece: 1 price for the piece “as-is”, and one for the artist to complete the work.

2022

This show, featuring 23 Central Florida artists, celebrates the art of the human form in 27 pieces of artwork. Photography, oil, acrylic, pencil, sculpture and mixed-media are all represented.

Materials used to create mixed media art include, but are not limited to, paint, cloth, paper, wood, clay, bronze, metal and found objects.

Taboo

Sep 10 - Oct 21

What is TABOO? Something that breaks societal norms. Things we “just don’t talk about.” An artist’s job to push boundaries, open minds, provoke discussion, and even create controversy. In other words, artists make people think. If you’re not afraid to have your views challenged and your mind opened, you’ll enjoy this show.

The beauty and complexity of abstract art is that it is open to interpretation, and nobody can tell you if your interpretation is the right one. Our IYKYK Abstract show features the work of 28 local artists

Displaying an aptitude for the arts early on, Alison Westborn has cemented herself as one of today’s emerging leaders in the field. With an affinity for nature & the elements, her works are reminiscent of Florida’s natural color palette and her Redwood City, CA roots.

Launching her first exhibit in a laundromat, she challenged the audience to think outside traditional constructs, whilst making art accessible in a way that brought the community together, and created a sense of intimacy. Her desire is to open up dialogue at the deepest level possible by utilizing an array of textures, light and scent to elevate the visionary experience.

Westborn strives to leave a legacy that encourages people to find the good in everything, cultivate joy, and to take care of each other. All of which is salient to her work and life.

Ton Gomes is an artist who possesses the ability to capture the essence of urban life and translate it into his art. With deep roots in the Brazilian countryside of Serra Talhada and even deeper roots in the urban life of São Paulo, he began his artistic career as a fashion photographer but soon discovered that his true passion was capturing the imperfect beauty of everyday life and expressing it through his art.

In 2018, he made the bold decision to leave his secure job as a national commercial manager to fully dedicate himself to his art. Since then, he has photographed for major brands such as Diesel, Nike, Kipling, Deezer, Puma, and Von Dutch and also has dedicated his time to painting and sculpture. His art is a reflection of his personal journey, and he believes that it is precisely because it is imperfect that it is so beautiful.

In photography, he captures the life on the streets throughout the world, depicting urban environments and the people who inhabit them. In painting, he draws inspiration from his own photographs, creating works that reflect the everyday beauty of life. In sculptures, he finds inspiration in his childhood, in the clay tones of the Brazilian northeastern countryside, and in the breasts, as a way to honor the women who grew up in his life.

In 2020, he moved with his husband to Orlando, Florida. The COVID-19 pandemic brought a wave of anxiety and uncertainty, but for Ton Gomes, it was a moment of reflection and creation. He felt the need to put these feelings out, and that's how his recent paintings and sculptures came to be.

In 2022, he had his first photography exhibition at the College Park Gallery, and now he is preparing for his first solo exhibition at the same gallery, where visitors will be able to experience the unique and inspiring vision of Ton Gomes' world.

It is said that only children and animals are truly innocent beings. How quickly society and its influences take hold of that innocence. The rapidly evolving change can be witnessed as clearly as a seed spouting and growing over a short time. Animals are turned into pets, adorned with clothing, accessories and an abundance of toys, none of which is the natural design. Children become distracted and the need to occupy their attention only grows more intense as they age.

Toys turn to games and games turn to apps which lead to behavior that fills a subconscious need for validation. The struggle to resist the pulls of the world is a difficult one and choices become less and less accounted for in this uniquely divided culture. As the child grows hard lessons are learned. Perspective adapts to each phase of life.

The child becomes a parent and the parent becomes a grandparent who will now  bear witness to the inquisitive journey of a new life. This new lineage is a renewed extension of themselves.

Now unburden by the rat race of deadlines, carlines and societal standards the person in their old age may experience the world all over again through the eyes of their kin in complete wonder of the ever fleeting innocence

Orlando native J. Bon, also known as “The Unsigned Artist”, has been shaking up the art scene for over a decade while keeping a low profile. Starting as a silk screen artist at the age of 15, he has evolved those skills into an original, luxurious “Neo-Mosaic” shattered glass concept of collections that he creates today.

His style has continued to evolve over the years and can be seen in all corners of the world; including a 40-foot floor to ceiling lobby mural located in the Hard Rock BAKU in Dubai, various street murals and decorating numerous businesses around the Central Florida area and many more.

Recently, his original neo-twist on both silk screening and mosaic style art has caught the eye of those in the art world. Original pieces can be found in various galleries, up for auction or commissioned.

His use of shattered glass in his pieces not only brings even further depth to his style, but makes each piece of his one-of-a-kind.

After 40 years of traditional, terrestrial photography, Jim Hobart had done just about every kind of photography there is. Looking for a new challenge in 2018, he began to experiment with underwater photography. Immediately interested, he was determined to learn all about this new format.

Underwater photography creates ethereal, otherworldly images, which at first glance can be disorienting. There are reflections that appear to be impressionist paintings. Fabrics swirl and flow in strange and fascinating ways. Hair becomes alive, and clothing drifts and floats with a mind of its own.

This exhibition will showcase all new work from the past 12 months.
